Green Tobacco Sickness

People who work in tobacco fields can develop a type of nicotine poisoning called Green Tobacco Sickness. Not everybody who harvests tobacco will get it. It usually happens when the harvesters pick up wet, green tobacco leaves and carry them next to their body. Scientists who have studied this illness say that young, non-smoking field workers are the ones who get this disease.

The symptoms are weakness, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, abdominal cramps, headache, and difficulty breathing. Though very uncomfortable, these symptoms go away after a few hours, even without treatment.
