What is Science?

Science is more than facts about the world in which we live. It is a way to study things and events that occur in our world and universe. Scientists may use technology and instruments to help them make sense of the things they investigate. Scientists make observations (either in the field or in a laboratory), record data, draw conclusions from data, and develop theories to explain what they observe. Despite what many people believe, scientists don't work alone --they work closely with other people. They exchange information with other scientists about the experiments they perform so that other scientists can do the same experiments. By having others repeat experiments, scientists can become confident that their results are valid.

People have many ideas about science. Some people think science is facts and information about the world. Other people think science is making observations about the world. Yet other people think science is a way to investigate things that happen in order to understand why they happen. What do you think science is? Let's see how scientists and others view science.
